DUAL CIRCUIT BRAKES – RELIABLE RETROFITTING

Safety through Redundancy

Retrofitting from single-circuit to dual-circuit brakes decisively improves the safety of an elevator system: Two independent brake circuits significantly reduce the risk of complete failure. If one brake circuit fails, the second ensures controlled deceleration to a standstill.

FUKA has been a reliable partner for dual-circuit brake conversion kits for many years – perfectly fitted for almost all known manufacturers and gears. We also develop solutions for makes unknown to us at short notice.

Two independent brake circuits
Reduced risk of failure
Perfect fit for almost all makes
Fast retrofitting
Cost-efficient retrofit
Technical inspection included

Custom-fit solutions for existing systems

Our conversion kits are specially designed for the modernization of existing elevator systems:

  • Compatible with a wide range of winches/drives (including older series)
  • Project-related design for your specific system
  • Fast retrofitting without unnecessary downtime
  • Clearly defined scope of delivery – from mechanical connection to brake release

The systems are designed so that – depending on the variant – existing components (e.g. brake levers or brake shoes) can continue to be used or completely replaced. This reduces effort and costs in retrofitting.

Legal / testing context

During the inspection of elevator systems, the functionality of the brakes including redundant brake functions is checked; dual-circuit brakes are explicitly mentioned as an example of such redundancies. (TÜV Association)

A professionally designed dual-circuit brake thus supports a safe and testable modernization of existing systems.

Holistic Retrofit Approach

On request, we supply not only the conversion kit but a complete retrofit concept:

Technical inspection of the existing system
Coordination of mechanical connection, brake station, and release device
Provision of required documents
Support with installation and commissioning questions

This gives you a consistent solution from a single source – technically clean and economically plannable.

Dual Plunger Brakes / USA-Code-Retrofits (ASME A17.1 / CSA B44)

For the US and Canadian market, we offer Dual Plunger Retrofit solutions through our subsidiary

FUKA Elevator Solutions USA

. Information and contact can be found at:

In parts of the USA, new and retroactive code requirements mean that many existing systems with single-plunger brakes must be converted to dual plunger by 01/01/2027.

Together with our partner Hyperion Solutions, we offer the Titan Dual Plunger Retrofit Brake Kit – a pre-engineered, code-compliant modernization solution for older traction machines (geared & gearless) that can be retrofitted without removing the machine.

The Titan Kit was awarded "Product of the Year 2025" (Safety Products) by ELEVATOR WORLD.
